Mission Statement
The Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the impact of brain tumors and to providing support for the development of treatment strategies and cooperative biomedical research related to brain tumors in the Charlotte region.
Goals of BTFC:
- To heighten awareness of brain tumors.
- To continue and further develop grass roots fundraising programs to support brain tumor research through special events such as the Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium.
- To provide current, useable information regarding brain tumors for patients, family members and other interested persons.
- To support the development of local brain cancer research to serve the Charlotte region.
Mission Statement for UNCC/BTFC entity:
The Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas exists primarily to advance the understanding of Neurooncology with the goal of gaining new and effective treatment strategies to combat primary and metastatic brain tumors. The secondary goals include the promotion of research programs and novel treatment approaches for the benefit of all cancer patients and, more broadly, the development of cooperative translational biomedical research efforts in the Charlotte region.
Goals of Entity:
- Linking existing clinical abilities in neuroscience with the strong basic and applied research programs at UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte Research Institute, creating teams with tremendous leveraging potential.
- The development of a strategic vision for comprehensive and cooperative biomedical research efforts.
- Establishing a fund to support an Endowed Chair for Brain Cancer Research at UNCC.
- Providing grants to basic research scientists to seed support of bench to bedside collaborations.
- Improved and increased funding for laboratory resources useful or necessary for biomedical research.
