Fund Raising Efforts

Grass Roots
The Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas encourages survivors, friends and family members those currently fighting the disease to become involved at a community level through support networks, volunteer opportunities and special events. One of BTFC’s Board of Directors and key volunteer is Karen Sain. Karen, her husband Gary and son Brian lost their dear son and brother Aaron, in 2004 to a brain tumor. She and her family know first-hand the pain and loss brain tumors can inflict on families and friends.
In 2005 she and her family started the Annual Fun Day of Tennis for Aaron and raised over $3,500 with all proceeds benefiting the BTFC. This year the event raised over $5,500 and marked increase in participation. Additionally, the Sains have a huge network of support in their Hickory, NC community and together they have raised over $45,000 in Aarons’ memory through team rides and personal donations to BTFC.
If you or someone you love is battling brain cancer, is a survivor or you’ve experienced the loss of a loved one and you would like to talk with someone about support groups, community involvement or fundraising ideas, please feel free to contact Karen Sain directly at 828-495-4177 or by email at karensain@charter.net.
