History

The Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas was founded in 2000 when Mr. Jim Palermo, a prominent Charlotte businessman, and Dr. Tony Asher, a local neurosurgeon and brain tumor specialist, shared their vision for advancing the care of brain tumor patients with the local community. Since that time, the BTFC has raised over $6 million through gifts-in-kind and donations, funded vital brain tumor research, developed educational programs for brain tumor patients and their families, created the nation’s largest professional criterium cycling race to raise brain tumor awareness and funded the development of the Brain Tumor Navigator Program, the first of its kind in this region and a major advance in local brain tumor care. The vision of our founders remains strong, but its continued growth depends on your support.

Jim and Tony shared a love for Charlotte and a passion for finding a cure for brain cancer. The result was the formation of the Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas. We hope you will join us in this this effort.
